Releasing the Shackles of Shame – Returning to the Authentic Self
In many spiritual
journeys, we encounter a subtle yet powerful emotion—shame.
Unlike anger or sadness, it often hides in silence,
yet it shapes our behavior, decisions, and even identity.
Shame is like an
invisible cloak,
keeping us from revealing our true selves,
fearing things like: “What if they find out who I really am?” “I’m not good
enough.” “Something is wrong with me.”
It often originates from childhood—times we were criticized, neglected, or
misunderstood.
I recall a moment in
my healing path,
when I saw my younger self being laughed at in class for giving a wrong answer.
That child learned to hide, to deny, and to stay silent.
For years, I wore a mask of strength and perfection,
but that same mask became a barrier to my inner flow.
True healing doesn’t
mean “getting rid of shame,”
but walking toward the shamed self with love and compassion.
Telling them, “You don’t need to be perfect. You’re worthy of love just as you
are.”
With each gentle embrace, shame loosens its grip.
The more we allow
ourselves to be honest about our imperfections,
the more lightly and authentically we can live.
Guiding Questions
Today:
- Are there parts of me I’m afraid to let
others see?
- Has shame been blocking my true expression
or desires?
- What words of compassion and affirmation
can I offer myself today?
